When to start with flat embroidery
Flat embroidery is a useful starting point for a polo or jacket logo where you want thread texture without the raised foam effect. Ask how lettering and closely spaced shapes will look at the intended dimensions. Flat does not mean every tiny detail in a source image can be reproduced unchanged.
What to discuss for 3D puff
Puff embroidery uses foam to create raised areas. Ask whether your design has shapes suitable for that treatment and whether the cap structure supports the proposed result. Small text and complex intersections deserve a design review rather than a blanket promise that the logo can be made in puff.
If you want some parts raised and others flat, identify those parts in the brief. Ask how the provider will finish edges and which areas it recommends simplifying. A photograph of another cap does not prove that your artwork will produce the same result.
Prepare a cap or polo comparison brief
- Choose the exact garment or describe its construction.
- Give the logo dimensions and placement.
- Identify text or brand shapes that must remain legible.
- State whether you want flat, raised or a combination.
- Ask what proof or sew-out is available before the full run.
For a hypothetical team cap, keep a small tagline flat or discuss removing it while using raised treatment for a simpler main mark. That is a design question for the provider, not an approved production specification.
What to look for in a stitched sample
Check letter openings, gaps between shapes, placement around seams and the feel inside the garment. Confirm thread colors using the provider’s available references. View the design at actual size rather than relying only on an enlarged digital preview.
