Custom workwear: approve a wash test before a bulk order

Before ordering a large run of custom workwear, ask for a decorated sample in the actual garment and test it under the intended care routine. Check fit, logo appearance and the garment after laundering. This catches practical problems that a digital proof can't show.

Match the sample to the order

Record the brand, style, fabric, color and decoration method. An embroidered cotton polo doesn't represent a printed polyester work shirt. If the supplier proposes a substitute, decide whether another sample is needed.

Clarify whether sampling has a separate charge and whether the production run will use the same blank and decoration specification. Keep the approved sample rather than relying only on a photo.

Use the care instructions that will apply

Follow both the garment and decorator's instructions. Custom Ink's care guidance illustrates that decorated apparel needs specific washing and drying care. Industrial laundering or a workplace's required process should be discussed separately; don't assume ordinary home-wash guidance applies.

If the care requirements conflict with how your team must wash its uniform, resolve the product choice before ordering.

Make the test repeatable

Before launderingAfter laundering
Record garment measurementsMeasure the same points
Photograph the logo and seamsCompare puckering, edges and appearance
Have a wearer assess fitRecheck movement and comfort
Record the approved care methodNote the actual wash and dry settings used

Label this as a sample check, not a certification of long-term durability. One wash cannot establish how a garment will perform through months of work.

Set acceptance criteria before production

Decide which observations matter: readable small text, acceptable logo size, fit after care and suitability for the job. Ask the decorator what can be changed if the sample isn't acceptable. Altering embroidery density, artwork or blank selection may have different costs.

Keep the final proof, sample approval and size list connected to the order. A verbal “looks good” is harder to track when several employees or suppliers are involved.

Read the embroidery proof guide and business-apparel order guide. To request a provider quote, include the garment use, quantity and laundering needs. Indy Custom Apparel connects inquiries with independent providers; sampling, production and fulfillment terms are confirmed with the selected supplier.
