How much do custom T-shirts cost?

Custom T-shirt cost depends on the blank garment, quantity, decoration, artwork preparation and fulfillment. Ask for the full order total using the same specifications from each provider. This matching service does not publish a universal per-shirt price or set provider charges.

Indy Custom Apparel connects Indianapolis-area customers with independent custom apparel providers. We don't own or operate a print shop — pricing, production and turnaround are set by the provider handling your order. See how it works →

Compare the order total, then the unit cost

Start with what you will pay for the complete job. Divide that total by the number of usable shirts if you need a per-shirt comparison. Include the same taxes, pickup or shipping arrangement and decoration locations in every quote. A low advertised unit price can omit setup or apply to a different quantity.

For a hypothetical example, compare 60 navy cotton shirts with one front logo and one back print against exactly that specification. A quote for 60 white shirts with only a front logo cannot tell you who offers the better price for your intended order.

Does ordering more always save money?

Quantity pricing can lower a unit cost, but extra shirts still cost money. Compare complete totals at the quantities you can use. If adding shirts moves an order into a different price bracket, ask for both totals and check whether all those shirts share one design and garment specification.

Do not buy unused pieces just to reach a headline discount. For an event, first collect sizes and allow a reserve only where there is a reason. The shirt quantity planning guide helps separate confirmed recipients from optional stock.

How does the method change the quote?

Screen printing may include charges tied to preparing individual colors or locations. Digital printing and transfers use different preparation and production models. Ask the provider to explain its charges rather than assuming DTF has no setup fee or screen printing is always cheaper above one fixed quantity.

Compare screen printing and DTF using the actual design and fabric. A full-color illustration, a simple wordmark and different names on each shirt are different production requests.

What can you change to fit a budget?

Request alternate quotes for fewer decoration locations, a different blank garment or a simplified design. Ask what the change affects: feel, durability, available colors or approval time. Protect the part that makes the shirt useful. For a staff uniform, cutting a needed size from the order is unlikely to be a sensible saving.

Artwork preparation may be a one-time cost, or it may be repeated for changes. Ask whether the provider retains approved files and what applies to future reorders.

Questions before you accept

  • Is the quoted garment available in every required size?
  • Does the total include all decorations, preparation, tax and fulfillment?
  • What proof or sample do you approve, and are revisions included?
  • When is payment required, and what happens if specifications change?
  • Is the completion date a confirmed commitment or an estimate?

Keep the final specification with the quote so a later substitution is visible. For Indianapolis orders, send your project details through the T-shirt printing quote request. An independent provider confirms the actual price and production terms.
